The Story Behind
the Studio

My office wasn’t always the Umi Goods studio—it was the ocean. As a marine mammalogist, I spent a decade studying the incredible creatures that call the sea home. But eventually, the pull of a different kind of "tide" led me to trade my fish covered gear for a potter's wheel. Umi Goods was born from blending my scientific background with a lifelong passion for the arts.

My mission is to capture the exact feeling of being near the water—that sense of peace, wonder, and a little bit of playfulness—and distill it into small-batch ceramic objects. I hope that my art will bring you the same joy I feel when I’m seaside.

More Than Just Clay

While I’ve moved from the field to the kiln, my heart remains with the ocean. As Umi Goods grows, my goal is to use this platform to wave a flag for our blue planet. I look forward to highlighting vital non-profits and groundbreaking studies that are essential to ocean health, ensuring that these pieces don't just decorate your home, but also help protect the environments that inspire them.
